Quick question about lastclip.txt

I just have a quick question about the lastclip.txt file that you need to import with the contents when transferring from P2 cards. Basically, what does this file do and what are the ramifications of not importing it to you and your footage? I haven't not imported it but I was just curious. I've never heard an explanation, just a warning not to forget it. Thanks.

It really contains information that pertains to SPANNED clips, that is clips that start on one card and continue on another. This helps FCP and other apps join those two halves into one whole.

Ah, thanks. So really it is not completely necessary to have. Helpful yes but not the end of the world?

Well, sometimes FCP won't recognize the card without it...so it is advisable to copy it. And if you don't have it, it is possible to make one.

Actually it should be considered essential if for no other reasons than a- it's tiny and takes up no space compared to video footage, b- it can mean the difference between a successful import or not when you have spanned clips in FCP.
