Quick Paypal question...

Hey gang-

I have a couple of quick questions. I don’t buy or sell using paypal too often so when I do I need a quick refresher as to how to ensure I properly use the service and not get screwed.

If I am selling something, all I do is send the person my paypal address, correct? And once I see that the funds are in my account I can ship the product without worry? I mean, there’s no way they can come back to paypal and say “hold up a minute, I made a mistake, I’m really from Nigeria. Can I have my money back?” All the while, my package is on its way to said Nigerian country.

I just gave my paypal info to someone and once I see that it’s in my account, I plan to head to the Post Office. Am I protected? I’m curious because this buyer didn’t ask a whole lot of questions about said product so that always makes me wonder. He did say it was a gift so maybe he doesn’t really know what to ask anyway.

When I sell, I never know the proper questions to ask because I just assume that since they are taking the leap of faith by sending the money that I just assume I’m safe. But there are all sorts of new scams cropping up all the time so I thought I’d ask…

Thanks-
Rick

In paypal, if you want to send an invoice to someone you click on the tab:

REQUEST MONEY

and put in their paypal account email address, the amount you are requesting, hit continue and then in the message box put EXACTLY what you are selling.

They in turn will get the invoice and pay you. This will make it a more legit transaction.

If it is a big ticket item over 2k or so, I would protect myself by faxing them a "bill of sale" stating that you're selling them this item in said condition and have them date, sign it and even put their driver's license # next to their name.

On paypal they can always state they didn't receive the item, or that it was not in the condition stated, but a 'bill of sale' sort of throws all of that out the window.

You can also use escrow.com for large ticket items, this protects the seller and buyer.

But next time, send THEM the invoice, not your email address.

Dang, good tip. Well, I still haven't received the payment yet so I might be able to do that.

I actually called Paypal. They said that as long as I get a receipt for the item from the Post Office/UPS then I should be covered. Though, I don't know how true that is.

Definitely get a delivery confirmation. Then there is no question as to whether or not they received the item. The bill of sale thing is a good idea too.
