quick (hopefully) question about p2 stuff

OK so I have been doing some more research on everything and my head feels like it's going to explode.

I am really on edge about all this since I got taken to the cleaners with this camera (bought it used for 3900 found out it was broken a day later then had to pay 870 to get it fixed) so I am not really happy.

It has been a long and grueling 3 week process until I finally got my camera back and working.

I will tell you what I have so you can maybe let me know if I am missing anything:

hvx 200

MBP 15 inch model (2008).

I have the fire wire cable that I used for my hv20 to import footage, and I did import it, I just havent gotten the hang of FCE (I only have final cut express).

Can I view the footage without it going onto FCE? Can it even go on FCE?

The HVX dvd says you can rename the card, but I have had no luck doing that and the other pages I found on the net were confusing. I downloaded a p2 formatter but I suppose I have to have the p2 card hooked up to the computer for that to work (although I didnt see a rename option)

also, do you need to have a p2 store to rename it or to transfer files onto the mac? I have brought the footage I shot over with a firewire cable, but I can't view it. :(

I feel like cracking my head open.

Anyway, thanks for the help,

Nader

you do not use a firewire cable to bring in footage from the P2 card.

you have to use USB

Make a folder where ever it is that you are going to put the footage on your computer or your external and then copy the content and the last clip notepad from the camera, both at the same time into that new folder.

your post confuses me. I have a cable that is firewire that connects my computer and the camera with the p2 card in it.

So........yes, I do use a firewire cable? Unless I am misunderstanding you?

yeah, I did that, but I just cant play the footage. I have a folder "untitled folder", inside is "Contents" and "LASTCLIP.TXT"

how can I watch what I shot?

download and install p2cms. and it will allow you to view the clips in the video folder (which is inside the contents folder) with quicktime player simply by double clicking them.

and make a NEW, new folder for every card you transfer. i.e:

PROJECT folder
----P2_FOOTAGE
------CARD01
--------CONTENTS
--------lastclip.txt
------CARD02
--------CONTENTS
--------lastclip.txt
------CARD03
--------CONTENTS
--------lastclip.txt

im not certain that FCE can see dvcproHD footage. you may need FCP?

again, not certain... just a thought.

Hey wgzn, I downloaded and installed the p2cms but I still cant view the footage. Am I meant to open it and watch it through p2cms or just go into the contents folder and watch it through the video?
The only thing in the video folder is a .MXF file which I dont recognize. it also wont let me open it in QT. :(

What should I do?

Download the free 30 day trial of Premiere Pro CS4. Even though the site (Adobe.com) is all about CS5,
there is a link to the older version download page. It's a full featured trial version.
