What's odd to me is how 0:08 looks so bad and then 0:50 looks rather nice (in my opinion). Am I allowing too much contrast between light and dark when I shoot wide angles? Or is the kit-lens just not very great with wide angles? Tips / comments / advice are all greatly appreciated.

my guess is you're exposing for the highlights instead of the shadows.

everything looks too dark. the highlights (the sky) isn't a big part of the scene so i wouldn't worry about letting them clip in order to properly expose the shadows that dominate most of your shots.

set your exposure based on the subject of each shot, not on the overall levels of the entire image.

also, use some crossfades between the audio of each clip. the abrupt cuts in/out were distracting.

Yeah, I actually cloned audio in two clips because it had loud talking that I didn't want there. I'm still reeeeally new to video editing, but I'm going to look around and see if I can find a way to cross-fade the audio.

Thanks for the input! I'm going to do what I can with the footage and try to make a slightly more polished version just for practice. Oh, and does the quality seem bad to you? I see a lot of GH1 videos other people shoot and the quality just seems not up to par, and it makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong with my editing software. The video seems rough and a little jump on my PC too, but it smooths out more on YouTube. I'm not sure what's up with that.
