Questions about the P2 workflow, i'm new

Hi everybody!

We are renting a hvx-200 this weekend and I have never worked with p2 cards before... I am still wondering if we'll shoot in 720p/48fps or 1080p/24fps... So the question is, wich editing program will support this workflow without much tweaking? We will edit on windows xp with an Ahtlon x2 5600+, 2x250go of 10,000rpm Raptors, 4go of ram and 2terrabyte of external storage.

So any tips? Or maybe you could redirect me to some websites?

Thanx in advance and sorry if my english is inaccurate, I don't speak it often!

EDIUS is the most well-rounded NLE for P2 integration. SpeedEdit, Avid XPress Pro HD and NewsCutter, Premiere Pro (with Raylight) and Vegas (with Raylight) all work with it as well, and Avid Liquid has some compatibility.

If shooting 1080/24p, Avid won't be your best choice; it doesn't allow you to strip out the pulldown and edit the raw 24p frames. But Avid works great with 720/24pN.

Like Barry said... for the best support for the P2 workflow and HVX support, EDIUS is the way to go... Check out the trial version from www.canopus.com if you want... I believe it still has the Broadcast features. FYI, you will need EDIUS Broadcast if you purchase it. Not Pro. Broadcast. v4.5 should be coming in a matter of a week or two.

Later,
Jason

I have some experience editing SD video in premiere. Is Edius similar? I find myself pretty intimidated by Avid and Premiere is too unstable for me to keep using forever.

All the stuff on the Edius Tips site will still apply. V4.5 revamps the look of the UI, but it will still work the same way. Besides that there are bug fixes and new features, but how the program gets stuff done is essentially unchanged.
