Questions about magic lantern

HeyAndy

I'm considering installing magic lantern but there are some questions I need to ask,

- Does installing magic lantern void your warranty?
- Can it break your camera?
- Is it installed onto the camera unit or SD/CF card?
- Is the HDR feature basically the same as Red's HDRx?
- Does the HDR feature support 1080p 24p and picture profiles (cinestyle, flaat)?

Thanks.

* warranty: yes, but it's not easy to detect
* brick: yes, but it's not common at all (I know of no bricked cameras in recent times)
* a flag in the camera's firmware is changed, then ML is installed in the SD/CF card
* HDRx: yes, something like that; I've never used it

If magic lantern is installed in the card and not in the camera can you just delete it or replace the card with another one as a way of removing magic lantern from the camera if you don't want to use it?

Yes. if you insert an SD card without ML, it will not load ML.
Alternatively if you have ML on SD , and you half hold the shutter when turning on your camera, it will load OEM firmware.. although im having trouble actually being able to use this feature for t2i for some reason.

HDR is low FPS. u can shoot in 1080, but then you have to interpolate each frame in post. It is cool feature, but whether you use it, probably not due to being less than 15fps or so (see ML website)

This feature was changed several versions ago. Now, you press the set button during startup to prevent ML from loading.

I was scared to instal it too.. Im REALLY glad I did though. So many useful features. Definitely worth it for me.
And maybe im mistaken but I read somewhere that there hasn't been a single report of ML breaking a cam.
