Questions about lighting kits for the 7D

I was rounding out my shooting gear with a desire to replace my cheap work lights / clamp lights with something perhaps slightly better. I have been really looking into what appears to be some interesting daylight colored flourescent softbox sets. I was wondering if anyone had much experience with modern flourescents that supposedly have cured the flickering issues as well as color issues. I am very drawn to the idea of low power consumption along with very little heat radiation, and very long bulb lifetimes. Any thoughts in general on shooting with flourescent vs halogen vs tungsten, other than the color temperature?

An idea on something to start with that I have been looking at: http://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-...3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1274470918&sr=1-3

Thanks for any suggestions/info, and while i know a nice Lowel or Arri kit would likely be superior, the cost is out of my pricerange for now.

Fluos are fine. The flickering you want to watch out for are ceiling lamps, etc.

Major issue comes down color temp balance, and it's a MAJOR issue when you're running multiple lamps.

Look into CoolLights.biz and on Ebay for Blueline Fresnels. I hvae two 150w HMI's from Coollights and they've been to hell and back, still kicking off of the FIRST two bulbs that came with them, after falling down stairs, off of trucks, bouncing around in my trunk.

My other favorite light source is the China Ball. Filmtools sells lantern locks in three different sizes, you use them in Conjunction with C-stands and high wattage bulbs (1K in a China Ball... dreamy) and it's great light on a budget.

You do have to figure out a way to control them, though, because the light goes everywhere.

What bulbs are you using in the China Ball?

Some Standard 250W and 500W Daylight and Tungsten Bulbs from Film Tools.

1000W Tungsten from Filmtools

And 85w CFLs (big suckers) 5500K from the internet.
