Question on using 4/3 Adapter

I purchased my first additional lens for my GH1 and have a question. I got a Nikon to 4/3 adapter and a Nikon 50mm F/1.8D lens.

They fit together easily but when I turn the camera on I get a message that says "Please check that the lens is attached correctly"

I've taken it off and placed it back on several times and it seems like it is mounted correctly.

Is there another step required for the camera to recognize the lens?

Put the GH1 in Manual mode (for example), and then refer to the last item in the Custom Menu "Shoot w/o lens".

This is also described in the GH1 user manual & many many times here, but is hard to find if you don't already know what you're looking for. Enjoy your GH1 & lens!
