Hey all-

Is it possible to run HDMI out of GH2 to Ki-Pro mini and also run audio 'through' H4N to Ki-Pro mini and end up with Proress 422 files with audio synched?

Thanks- Z

One option would be to plug your mics directly into the Ki-Pro Mini, then connect the Ki-Pro's 3.5mm headphone output to the H4n's 3.5mm mic input with a Sescom LN2MIC-ZMH4-MON cable.

Thanks Sam but, why would I do this?

I should be clearer sorry ------I would like to take advantage of the H4N's 2 XLR inputs--and the sole reason for the Ki-Pro mini is to be able to record audio and video simultaneously in the field and have ready to go Pro Res files synched with audio. I film sports events- and have used the GH13 with an H4N for the last 5-6 months, but synching is too cumbersome for same day edits or if I have to do a 'shoot and dump/hand-off'.

...ok I stand corrected, didn't realize that the KIPro mini had 2 XLR inputs, maybe just mics to pre-amp to Ki-pro would work...forget the H4N altogether??

Yes. The Ki-Pro Mini looks like a nicer piece of machinery than the H4n anyhow.

The only reason I could imagine to send the audio to the H4n as well would be to make a 2nd copy of the sound in the field.

The GH2's HDMI output is designed & best used for high quality _monitoring_ while the camera is in preview, record & playback modes. (But HDMI does not work with GH2 "ETC" mode.)

However, my understanding of the conclusions reached in this l-o-n-g, must-read thread is that, unfortunately, the GH2's live HDMI video signal is _not_ yet usable/stable in a practical sense for recording to an external device. For all the gory details, see:

The KiPro Mini would have been a perfect match for use with the GH2 if the cam's live HDMI output was usable, but that doesn't appear to be the case currently. At least for monitoring the GH2 now features a live HDMI output.

If you're recording to a Ki-Pro Mini out from the HD-SDI of an AF100, can you plug your XLR mics into the AF100 and pass the audio through to the KiPro Mini? Also, if so, can you also plug another 2 mics into the XLR inputs on the KiPro Mini and record 4 mics simultaneously?

Maybe you should wait to see what the Atomos Ninja can do with 4.2.2. CEO's replied to an email last night saying they would make it compatible with the GH2. Also it is 1000$ less than the Ki Pro Mini;)

"compatible" with the GH2 is one thing. Implementing pulldown detection/removal is something entirely different. I wouldn't expect too much; it seems like it's a very complex issue and it's not likely that a do-all recorder unit is going to have specific pulldown detection for one particular model. But, hey, if they do, that'd be excellent.
