Question for Scrubs Fans: new network = new look?

Is it just me?

I caught the first new episodes the aired on ABC, and noticed a striking difference in the image of the show. The set is the same. The dialog is the same. The camera work is essentially the same. But the lighting and color treatment seem to have shifted drastically.

On NBC, "Scrubs" had a very intriguing design: a clean, sterile look. I mean, it is in a hospital. It wasn't sterile as in "uninteresting," but sterile in a way that really fit the show: soft lighting, bright, glowing. And now, on ABC, the colors are more saturated and the shadows are deeper with more contrast.

Has anyone else noticed this? I hate to think that network execs said "Okay, take this winning formula and keep doing it... except make it look like 'Eli Stone.'"

Yeah I definitely noticed it. I dont know that I'd call it a drastic change, but then again maybe I dont remember the NBC look that well. FWIW I really like the new look and the direction the show is heading. Will be interesting to see what happens after this season.

I dunno... I'm not a fan of the new look. The new direction, yes. But not the "ABC" look.

I'm also interested to see what happens after this season, especially since most of the principals are calling it quits.

Now I'm really going to have to take a look at the old vs new look. I noticed it but just kinda moved on and didnt think much of it. Definitely noticed a warmer glowier look in a lot of scenes. Reminded me a bit of House, but I may just be crazy.

The new direction though kicks ass. I like their fun quirkiness they had going but I like seeing a little more real side to the show. Still definitely has some of its humor though.

Wonder if they could pull off a spinoff like Frasier? Not sure who with, but it will be interesting to see what they do. Bill Lawrence is definitely out too isnt he?

I think Lawrence is out, yeah.

I know that JD, Elliott, Turk, Cox, and Kelso are all out. Don't know if Judy Reyes (Carla) had decided to leave. But I'd read an interview with Zach Braff that leads me to believe that the series is up at the end of this season. If anything continues, it would have to be a spinoff.

Janitor, maybe?

They've really brought Sam Lloyd (Ted the attorney) out more already this season. I laughed so hard last night that I just about pissed myself.

Still havent watched last night's - I catch them online during lunch usually. Have to make sure and watch it. Yeah if all those guys are leaving I'm betting its over. The Janitor might make an interesting story as would Ted though if they really fleshed it out and kept the same writers around.

Just saw a post from the Steadicam operator on the show and he mentioned that since its the last season Bill is trying to get alot of crew cameos in - Rich David (the Steadicam Op) cameo'd last night as a doctor in the coffee shop. A lighting guy was one of the pharmacists as well. So it sounds like everyone in production thinks its the last season.

I've seen the first two episodes of this season (the ninth) and I must say that this show took a wrong turn. Looks aside, the entire "now we're all teachers" premise is neither credible nor fertile.

I like everything about the NBC show better than ABC's. Looked better, funnier, more dynamic. I'm afraid that ABC is going to wipe the memories of all of the characters, and then put them on a deserted island.

Exactly! It's a totally different show. Enough so that it should have a different title. Especially since "Joe" (I don't remember her real name) is now teaching after being an intern for a year? Yeah, that's not plausible. So far, there have only been a couple of times I've laughed (when the janitor quit, and when "Guy love" started again). It's just not the same. There are too many stories this way. In the days of old school Scrubs, you followed Braff around and heard his thoughts. He was the main focus. Now we're following everyone almost equally. This isn't Friends. It doesn't work here.

It also creeps me out quite a bit that the school reminds me a LOT of the S21 prison in Cambodia.

Scrubs in on ABC since season 8. I think they chose more saturated look to convey better the idea that this is HD, though the camera is the same.

I haven't watched season 9 yet, but Scrubs started to thin out at about seventh season, so I don't care anymore. If they release first six seasons on Blu-ray I will be happy enough.
