Question for Owners of HMC40

I am going to buy an Hmc40 from B&H and saw that the camera comes with a 3-year warranty. But also, there is an option to buy a 3 or 5 year warranty which protects from accidents. Does anyone know what the free 3-year warranty from Panasonic includes? Does the additional warranty add on additional years of protection, or merely protect against a few more conditions such as accidental damage?

Also, is it worth buying the warranty?

Thank you

Here's what the Warrenty card that came with the cameras says:

"Basic warranty is 1 year. If you register as a user on the PASS website your warranty repair program will be extended to 3 years. Details about the extended warranty are here: http://panasonic.biz/sav/pass_e"

(Be warned that the PASS website is poorly designed ... to the point of being unintentionally hilarious at times.)

MXCRYNO,

You didn't state who the policy was with or any details, so you should read this for yourself to figure out what it covers, or doesn't. Many of those warranty policies are (were) with Mack which has gotten mixed reviews over time. Considering the HMC40 has three years of warranty from Panny, if you wanted more coverage, it would be prudent to look at the cost to cover theft and damage via riders to your homeowners or business policies. Most stand alone retail policies of the type you mention are either expensive, or from shady companies.

Talk to John at Full Compass. He recently quoted me $1870 for a HMC40 and $3215 for a HMC150.

Just a heads up: Amazon.com is not an authorized dealer. Panasonic's warranty coverage and any promotions are through authorized dealers. There's a sticky list of dealers on the HVX200/HPX170 form, if you ever need to check.
