Question for Jan about the HVX form factor...

When will we see the HVX in a body of the DVC60. Myself (and others) are willing to pay you about $300 extra (the DVC60 was about $300 more than it's sister camera the DVC30)*for a body like this. I'll pay about $600- $1000 extra for HDV/DV switchable and of course 24p/Cinema mode on all sides and I won't even think about buying the Canon again. HDV means on an 8 gig P2 card I could do about 30 minutes or so. As an action shooter I would prefer this to your current set up which has me looking very hard a Canon's offering. There's more flexibility for my needs, plus a shoulder mounted camera is better for running around catching martial arts moves. I'll email you and show you what I do.

Also this would make me more cool about the P2 workflow. Plus I could slap an 80GB Firestore in the hot shoe and just have a P2 just for variable framerate shooting. I also don't understand why you guys make a DVC30 then a DVC60 but no DVX with this kind of pro look. It continually blows my mind that you guys won't do this. You won't be hurting 2/3 chip sales because people looking for that kind of camera won't settle for less.

I know you guys are very much in touch with the customer's "wishlist" but if you did this, I can garuntee when the money is there I would buy a camera with all this even at $1000 higher than the price of your current model. The prolook and an HDV option. And you'd beat the pants off Canon. The only people who will buy Canon are those who need the lense options (split between Canon and JVC) and those who are die hard Canon fans. Please take this into consideration. It makes a lot of sense.

Personally, I like being hand-held for shooting martial arts.
It's easier for me to defend against stray ninja stars.

I dunnow. The pro-look might happen sometime. But HDV will be a definate nono. Panasonic is not in the HDV partnership and they have been dissing HDV somewhat lately. Anyway, forget that semi-shouldercam look anyway. Looks cool but it just doesn't work good enough. Just my opnion. I always thought the XL1 was crap a shouldercam. At least compared with the real deal. Nope then I rather have a 'handycam' and and decent tripod and shouldermount. Like the one I tried @ IBC from PAG. Worked like a charm and might just end up under my cam.

I would never have described the form factor of DVC60 as "the pro look." It still looks like a toy camera to me. I'd rather see an openly handheld-built camera that looks solid than a camera with extra plastic added just for shape.

The PAG shouldermount looks okay. Honestly though, it really sucks having to put all this crap on your camera take it off, put it back on again. I don't interview many Ninjas, so I could be wrong in my feelings altogether.

For me, the least appealing things about the Canon are HDV and form factor.

Obviously, it's different for everyone, though. But you can always make a small camera bigger by adding accessories and a shoulder mount. You can't make a big camera smaller and when I want a jib/dolly/steadicam shot, I want the smallest rig possible.

Personally, and this is just me, shoulder mounted cameras that don't have interchangeable lenses are the uglies, fisher price looking cameras out there. They just scream, "I am a cheap knock off". Nathyn, I would suggest if you want shoulder mount capability with even more stability, plus having the benefit of the small form factor of the DVX/ HVX get a dv rig pro. THat thing kicks the crap out of any shoulder mount camera. I have been on quite a few shoots, standing around for 12-14hrs with the dvx on my dv rig pro, and know that there would be no way to survive holding an XL2 or any other shoulder mount for that long. Plus you can have smooth steady shots, even more so than with any shoulder mount, and you can always then take the camera off, and use it in places where you just can't fit an XL*. But that's just me I guess.
