Question about tv broadcast.

I've been working at a tv station doing mainly studio work, but in a week or so i'm going to do some field shooting. The broadcast will be in SD 3:4 60i. For best results, should I use my XHA1 in 3:4 60i, or the studio's PD-170 in DVCAM mode? I don't fully understand 'DVCAM' but I've read that it is better for broadcast type things. Anyways, any advice you have would be super.

If you have experience with the PD-170, you should use that. If you don't have experience with the PD-170, get some. Then use it in the shoot. It never hurts to know more about other equipment. It's good for the resume. It will also save wear and tear on your A1.

Disclaimer: I've never worked for a TV station and, with luck, my few remaining years will keep me from having to do that, so I don't know anything about that environment.

DVCAM is a tape format. I've never used it so I don't know if it's 4:2:0, 4:2:2 or what, but if it's different than the PD it might raise issues in post. Another reason to use their gear.

Final thought. If they want to tether you off a bridge to get the right shooting angle, wouldn't you feel better holding their camera rather than yours?
