Question About Poor Results On DVD

Hello all,
I shot at 720/60P. Looks great in FCP. Made self-contained QT movie, into compressor at 4:2:2 HQ, then DVD Studio Pro at highest quality settings. Burned DVD has jagged edges, pixelation. I have tried several different methods (eg, taking QT movie directly to DVD SP) with same poor results. I am using a new iMac.
Any idea on what I am doing wrong? Any resources to point me toward? Thank you for your help.

What is the runtime of the disk? The longer it is, the lower your bit rate will be, which may result in the crappy footage you're asking about.

Also, if you're putting your self-contained QT into Compressor, why not encode directly to a DVD Studio "friendly" format?

Starting from the top... here's the things I do when outputting to DVD:
-Go into Compressor under the following tree of presets: Apple -> DVD -> Best Quality XX minutes (where XX equals the lowest number above your max runtime). If you need to encode a longer DVD, grab the "Best Quality: 120 Minutes" settings, drop 'em onto your file in the bin/queue, and edit the bitrates to reflect the output from that handy calculator link here:
http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm

-Run the Compressor queue and grab a beverage and a snack... this may take a while!

-Take the resulting files (2 files per QT that you put in: one *.ac3 audio package, and a *.m2v video package) and drop them into DVD Studio Pro.

-Create your menus, tracks, and disk structure

-Build the DVD locally on your computer, preview it.

-Burn it out, rinse, and repeat!

I hope this helps :)

Thank you for the responses. Jason, the run time is 63 minutes. I followed the exact protocol that you outlined, but really sub-par results. Thank you for the link Graham.
I did notice that the menus look to be of poor resolution as well. Could it be something in the burning itself? I would think that if I encoded the video incorrectly, the menus would still be sharp. Any thoughts?
Much appreciated,

I've try Premiere and Vegas in PC , AND Vegas does a much better job down scaling to DVD, IN FACT IS VERY GOOD.
When I'm recording for DVD , go 720 , 30P and render in Vegas to MPG DVD, nothing matches this quality.
I have a friend using FCP and just don't handle well the codec.
Seems like if Sony Vegas know more about AVCHD.
