Question about getting the "right" preset...

For some reason I can never get the right preset. My image is always too green, too blue, or too red. It drives me nuts. For example: Last night I had my camera on manual and everything looked so green and I don't know why (the green color setting wasn't even high, don't know why the picture looked like that). I then switch it over to "auto" mode and everything looks the way I want it. Is there a way to see what the settings are for auto-mode? I do all my my post production in Vegas, so I really don't care what my in-camera settings are too much. As long as I get all of my manual controls and just a regular picture, I would be happy. Any tips for this? Maybe you can share your presets with me?

When you are in manual you need to manually white balance or use a color temp. Switching to auto causes the camera to auto white balance and thus properly adjusting the colors.
