C100: Question about double slot recording

I'm going to be traveling and want to use double slot recording as a backup, don't have much time to test things out though and can't find solid answers online.

1. Do the cards need to mimic each other in terms of whats on each for video? For example, I use 64gb cards. If I shoot only 10gbs one day, and then next day format Card A, can I just keep the footage on Card B and continue shooting assuming everything will be fine? Just thinking of doing it as a backup-backup if I know I'm not going to fill up the Card B.

2. What's the purpose of being able to choose mp4 4mbps or 3mbps? Is it to just get more footage on the card? Or will the camera record more smoothly or without any hiccups because one card is not being written to with a high bitrate?

You can format the card A and keep the data on card B and continue to record double slot. I have done precisely that in my last shoot with my C300.

This is exactly what I do when I'm on a mutli-day shoot. Format the A card and record on both the next day. Then, I format the B card and record on both the next day, and so on.

I leave a 128GB card in slot B as a constant back up. I reformat it only after its totally filled. Slot A is for 32 gb cards that get reformatted before each new shoot. The dual slot has saved me a few times. I would recommend it to anyone who isn's using that feature.

Thanks for the info guys.

So I'd imagine the 4mbps/3mbps feature is just to record more onto the card? Rather than keeping the camera from working harder or getting hot?
