C300: question about c300 II?

Hello

just wonder does the 1080p frame or angle of view on new C300II is the same as on old C300?

if i put 25mm lens on C300II (at 1080p) and on C300 - is it going to be the exactly the same view?

Regards

Yes. The 1080p in C300 II at normal frame rates as well as till 50p/60p will give you similar framing as the original C300. The high frame rates at 100/120p will give you a windowed tele view.

The crop factor is the same between the the mark I and II. You do however get a slightly wider frame when you shoot in 2k and 4k. (1920x1080 vs 2048x1080) (3840x2160 vs 4096x2160)

The cinema 5d tests didnt shoot in RAW which is where the camera can really shine. In my testing ive found that shooting in raw at a lower ISO (between 100-400) and exposing for my highlights, then pushing the image in post provides much cleaner results.

There is a significant leap in image quality from the mk1 to the mk2. Log1 on the mk2 is amazingly clean in the shadows and you can push it around quite a bit. Log2 is a different beast. It has the 15 stops, but it's takes a different approach to exposure. It's a expose to the right profile. I've been shooting a doc project using both for interviews and the mk2 just has a more mature color palette it looks similar to the higher end cameras Amira/f5/55/Red. Subtler color options than the mk1.

Anyone able to color match the two cameras using the Color Profiles?

I spent the day trying to match an original C300 w/ a MKII today against a DSCLabs Professional Front box chart without success.
Seems the blue hue just wouldn't cooperate no matter what combination of profiles and matrix adjustments I tried.

Anyone else have better luck? (and please don't tell me you eye-balled it and it looks fine

).

Thanks.

This deserves it's own thread!

I tried with a different color chart, and couldn't get it to completely match either. My limited experience so far indicates that it's easier to match C300mk2 to Alexa than to C300mk1...

To answer the thread starter: Yes, the C300mk2 is a very significant upgrade in image quality. In many ways. Both in terms of baked in look and also that the codec + SDI output are finally 'fat' enough to work in LOG and do serious color correction. If you want to be convinced you should stick a Canon 50/1.2 on the C300mk2 and shoot with a slightly moving subject using the new focus tools, then try to repeat with C300mk1...
