Hi, I am still new to using the GH1. How do you get AVCHD files off the SD card? I can't seem to figure it out and am having a hard time with the manual.

And when it's on your computer, is there anything you have to do to it to make it compatible with FCP?

Thanks!

Nick

What's pompous and snarky about it? The link gives you all the info you need to transfer footage into FCP.

Did you expect him to type out everything when it's readily available online?

Hi Nick,

The Google link that pailes' posted is a good one. Nothing pompous/snarky about it. Now, had it been just a link to Google I could understand your feelings. This is a very helpful and friendly forum, pompousness and snarks are checked at the door.

Everything you want to know and more is also here:

Oh, and if you plan to copy the files off the SD card make sure you have a SDHC compatible reader if you're using SDHC cards. Learned that one the hard way.

Not trying to come off like a jerk, but obviously one can google information. I mean it's like someone asking you a question and you handing them an encyclopedia.

Any question asked here is available online, from the GH1 hack to questions about ND filters, to whatever. Isn't the purpose of a message board like this to ask questions?

Thank you for the link, Crosby.

I actually don't remember any name-calling. I called the response snarky and pompous. Not sure how that could be construed as name calling...

Well, one of the guidelines of most, if not all, forums (including this one) is:

"Before you ask a question, please do a search."

Saves on 400 people asking the same question over and over. On some forums (not here) all you'll get as a reply is a nasty "Did you even bother to read the FAQs or even do a basic search?" followed by assorted nasty comments from others. Some people will take a lot more time to put you down for asking than just answering you would have taken.

As to your encyclopedia comment, when I was in college if you'd ask the head graphic design prof a question, he'd look at you like he was thinking of the answer. Then he'd get up, walk over to the bookcase, grab the heaviest book there and then fling it at you! His way of telling you to use your own head to find the answer. Valuable lesson. Good ducking skills came in handy, too.

Nich man I'm with you. I can't stand that stuff either. It's definitely snarky, snide, pompous, snaky whatever you want to call it I agree. People take it very personally often here and other forums when you ask a simple question. Not sure if that was the poster's intent here, you may be misconstruing his intent but I'm just saying in general I HAVE seen a lot of that stuff, it's happened to me too. You ask an innocent question and out comes someone to snipe you with some rude crap like "Did you know google was invented recently?" etc. I just feel it's like people are taking it personally as if they're personally paying for the web space you're "wasting" by asking a question. I feel that since you and I both are active posting members of this forum, that means we are actively contributing "tax payers" of sorts since it is through OUR post counts and page clicking that this site makes revenue from advertisers (i.e. the more often we come to the site, the more the advertisers pay this site's owners). So the point is since we've established we're contributing members helping to keep the site alive and owners paid BY asking questions and posting as much as possible, then I feel we should be allowed to post with freedom (to reason) .......just my opinion.

edit: crosby you're absolutely right forums encourage you to search, the FORUM, just like this site's guidelines clearly state to search the forum, they don't say to my knowledge "Don't post here until you've searched google" because that would be against their best interests. Their best interest is in fact to have as many posts and active discussions as possible (within reason, i.e. Good helpful discussions) so that the site can stay alive with ad revenue etc.

It's a two way street.

How do you mean out of curiosity?

edit: Ok I see what you're saying. You're saying the other party should be allowed then to post whatever they want. However you notice I qualified that statement by saying To Reason. This means you should be able to post anything as long as it is reasonable. An innocent question is reasonable. A nasty or snarky/snide remark is not. In my opinion.

Linking to a Google search is anything but 'nasty' or 'snarky'. There's a wealth of info already written on the topic at the request of people like the OP. It's a valid response, to reason. If you want 'nasty' or 'snarky', hang out on reduser or cbr for a while. This place is incredibly helpful and laid back. I wouldn't become disgruntled over a link as a response. Good luck.

You might be right that's why I said in original post I don't know if the poster who linked google was acting out of spite or it was being misconstrued, I was just saying in general other such comments I've seen are often snarky/rude, etc.

However I truly agree with you, reduser has been quite a turn off for me with how nasty they get there...but maybe I shouldn't say that cus I'm under the impression both this forum and reduser are under the same ownership...

Hey new guys who have only been here a couple months, if you can't play nice then don't post. A little advice, be slow to take offense. There was nothing snide about that response, if you think there was then you're not going to fit in here.

If I see any more of these posts where people just respond with attitude or rudeness then I'll hand out some permanent vacations. This forum works best when people treat each other respectfully.
