I have a low end Sony HDR SR11 and it has a 60GB internal disk for recording.
I use it for capturing lectures and really am not interested in any real 'quality', just document the lecture...
Anyway... I copy the AVCHD file structure to my 'archive' disk, then import the appropriate MTS files into Premiere...
Now the question...
I find there are duplicate XXXXX.MTS files, which are about 2 or so GB, all of which seem to be 'identical' in that when I import several into Premiere, then look at the length, and the shuttle back and forth
in their respective timelines, or even put two of them into a sequence and compare 'time location' for 'time location' they are identical...
So, my question is 'what gives'... is this some sort of weird optimization and it uses up the 60 GB many times as fast with the additional media files... is there some 'hidden' reason that I'm really missing chunks of video
because the camera was alternating writing to these files (sort of like in 'raid' mode???).
Or noone has really looked at this sort of thing...
Any info would be appreciated...
