Question about 7d weather sealing

I'm aware of the 7d's superior weather sealing but I'm not clear on how this works in regards to lenses. Meaning is it only weather sealed using canon lenes (or certain type of canon lenses) or does the weather sealing apply to any lens. By just guessing I'd say it doesn't apply to any lens but I duno. I was out with my 7d and a nifty fifty and tamron 17-50mm and it started raining. I covered up the cam, cuz I wasn't sure. The fifty was on it at the time.

The Canon L series lenses (and not all of them at that) have a rubber gasket next to the mount that makes the whole package weather sealed. If you don't have one of these lenses on your camera it is not totally weather sealed.
