Question about 60D

I just got a 60D and wanted to know if I need to charge the battery for a full 24 hours or could I charge it for less time. The store clerk opened it but there was no energy in the battery.

Any other beginner tips I should know about are more than welcome. Thanks in advance everybody!

from what i read on wikipedia, lithium batteries will last longer if recharged to less than maximum capacity

The rate of degradation of Lithium-ion batteries is also related to battery charge level; they degrade much faster when at 100% charge, than at lower charges. Since batteries die if deep discharged (depleted) and since a battery has some self-discharge it is frequently recommended to store batteries at 40% charge level.[SUP][1[/SUP]
