Qualcomm Announces the Snapdragon 865 with 8k video, 4k 120fps and 960fps in 720p

Samsung Galaxy 11 is expected to be announced in February, 2020 and will likely ship by April-May.

Why is a processor like this not being used in cameras like GoPro, or even in prosumer mirrorless cameras?

It's probably going inside Alexas and Varicams.

(slight joke)

But there are other smartphone photo-video specs that will likely destroy the stand-alone photo/video industry in a few years.

I am still on the Galaxy S6 and since it has been working perfectly for the past few years I did not need to upgrade. But 8k and 120fps in 4k with five lenses is very exciting. I will be definitely getting an S11 as soon as it's out.

They will have to if they want to stay in business. We keep talking about the declining sales in dslr type cameras, this chip is going to further hurt the dslr/mirrorless industry as now Apple has to respond and quickly. We are talking 8k Dolby Vision HDR video with five lenses, AI and slow motion.

I'm interested in the fake DOF we now have for photos for video. Sources at Apple have told me that its coming.

Yep, now is not the time trickle out features. I realize that larger chips and professional work add a huge layer of restraint compared to a consumer device. If a phone gets too hot or trips up during a recording people will just shrug. Same thing on a gig and it is a different story. So the makers kind of have their hands tied, but they do look like they are running in peanut butter in terms of advancement.

Personally, I have been waiting for more improved high frame rate recording since I have been using a Sony RX10 II for its 240fps. At this rate I might be looking into a phone to replace it! I would not be excited but the camera industry is not keeping up in some areas.

Personally, I am looking forward to the new Anal6 Cam, wif da new Snapchatdragon sentsir. Thisis when pixel peeing gets really interesting.
Sorry if I have some typos, onthepot right now and myphono is a problem when I try 2 typo with only myleft hand. Spank God poor mynew spellchek.
Wanna C mynew bideo ?

The smartphone industry has its own replacement cycle problem. It went from two to three years (over half a decade, I believe) but 265 may be a chip that motivates a lot of people. Xiaomi Mi10, a mid price 5-camera phone, has an "old" 845. Most current upmarket phones ship with the 855.

PS. Off online rumors, the S11 release date may be as early as March, 2020.

Innovations have not been substantial for the last few years to intrigue most people to upgrade. My S6 Edge has Exynos 7 Octa (7420) which is now 4 years old but very fast and never ran into issues. Even the built in battery is still going like new and lasts all day long for average use. The innovations and features the 865 is exactly what consumers need to let go with their existing nice working devices and upgrade. Apple might surprise everyone next year and announce raw video capture and if that happens we will all be shooting paying gigs with our cell phones:D

Already there, almost. My iPhone 11 with Filmic Pro takes log. I gets more detail with slightly extended DR than the best Apple settings but put it on my big iMac screen and the noise is horrendous. To be fair, apply some NR in Resolve and it becomes much more useful, but no where near even an old 5D2, and certainly an embarrassment next to my FX7 or A7R4. But on its own tiny screen - great! Horses for courses.

More on Galaxy 11.

The Korean company is preparing the biggest overhaul to the cameras on its flagship phones for next year, according to people familiar with the company’s plans. Its upcoming Galaxy S11 will sport a 108-megapixel sensor for the main camera -- versus the iPhone 11’s 12 -- flanked by three more on the back of the device including an ultrawide-angle lens and 5x optical zoom.

Affiliate Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. developed the 5x zoom module and started production earlier this year. Similar technology has figured in devices from Chinese competitors Huawei and Oppo. Both rivals licensed their zoom tech from Corephotonics Ltd., an Israeli company Samsung acquired early in 2019.

MediaTek, who looks like Qualcomm competitor, announced its own chip, This caught my eye,

World's First Multi-Frame HDR video

The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 adds the world’s first multi-frame video HDR capability. This records 4K video by capturing every three frames at different exposures to cover an extended dynamic range, then fusing them into a single video stream in real time. The results are unprecedented, allowing users to accurately capture video in environments with extremes of brightness or darkness.

4K HDR by capturing three frames and combing them in real time. I wonder what is the high speed frame rates this chip is cable off. I hope this technology trickles down to mirrorless fast. I would hate to see some of the big brands fade out as they are truly struggling particularly Nikon. The only company that is doing well is Sony and monopoly would be bad for consumers.

Today I received an email from B&H for Canon specials which had the EOS R discounted to $1499 plus a $200 coupon code for a total price of $1299. I wonder if Canon's sales are that bad or they are coming out with an R II soon. The camera is definitely handicapped with the 4k crop but you get log and 10 bit log with an external recorder.
