purple reads as blue?

A strange thing just happened with my DVX100b. I'd manually white balanced the cam and was shooting something that was purple. On the LCD and in the EVF, both, the thing read as blue. Not bluish-purple. Blue. All other colors of objects in the room read exactly as they looked. I tried re-white balancing, but, still, this one purple item read as a blue that looked totally different than the object itself.

Any thoughts on why?

Maybe you're color blind???? J/K... That is really weird. The DVX has always been very color accurate for me, just a little saturated. Can you post some stills?

thanks...

thanks...

Thanks for this link--seems like EXACTLY the same issue. Also, just seems bizarre to me that the camera could read all other colors accurately, but represents this shade of purple as a true blue. Held true regardless of exposure or white balance (manual or presets).

Very odd...
thanks again-

Same thing happened to me with my Canon XHA1.

I was shooting a purple flower and it was pure blue. All other colors were dead on.

We experienced this on two DVX100a cameras when we were shooting at a car show. Other colors rendered accurately, but the DVX was incapable of re-producing the color of a purple roadster - it was always blue despite our best color balance tricks. BTW, we almost always shot preset 3200 or 5600K for that show.

We chalked it up to the LCD being unable to display the color, not that the camera was actually rendering the color to tape inaccurately.

Unfortunately, I've not seen this episode. I'll see if I have the viewer and confirm the final result.

weirder and weirder...

weirder and weirder...

Well, I guess the good news is that I'm not crazy (or color blind), but then the bad news is that this seems to be a real thing. Bizarre.

When you see the stuff you shot, I'd love to hear if it rendered the incorrect color to tape or not. I didn't shoot what I was seeing, so I don't know if mine wd have looked right on tape--though it's hard to imagine that this one color wd be inaccurate on the LCD and then correct on tape.

But, yeah, if you could post once you see it and let me know, I'd be very appreciative!
thanks-

Yup, I noticed the same "bluish" rendition of purple on the DVX100b last week. A guy beside me was shooting with a Canon DSLR and he had the same bluish thing. Told him and no matter how we wihte balance our vid/cam its still shown as blue. Funny thing there were many campact digital camera shooters and on theirs it shows the correct purple colour.

I uploaded to PC and it shows the correct purple colour

That's good news. I made the gross assumption that that would be the case. Actually, the resulting blue in the LCD wasn't offensive, it just wasn't right.

glad it renders correctly...

glad it renders correctly...

Wow--that's so wild that others have experienced this problem, and reassuring to hear that it looks right when rendered (at least in your case). Makes me wonder WHY it shows up like this. Anyone have any answers on that?

thanks again for responses!

I was filming a cheerleader in a rich purple outfit. My DVX saw it as blue just as you have described. To get school colors back, I used color correction in post.
I'm wondering if it is a glitch in the chroma phase? I'm going to attempt to reset the color matrix. Anyone else have any thoughts on a solution? Viewfinder characteristic? I'm not so sure...

This same thing was freakin me out too. Cheerleaders in purple looked blue in the DVX. But ya know I forgot about it, and never checked the final product.
