PS Cam Digital X35, P+S Technik

ARRI ALEXA sensor is 2880x1620, which can be pulled completely from the ARRIRAW file, which is an Uncompressed RAW. RED shoots in 4K REDCODE RAW, which is a selectable-compression RAW file. The resolution on the RED is also selectable, although it is generally a 4K compared to ALEXA's 3K. FS100 & F3 shoot at about 2.25K, but this is super-sampled within the camera for the 1920x1080 HD output.

The bloated price and the the HD resolution simply do not make sense to me. . . . Am I the only person that thinks the bloated price on this machine is a disappointment?

The price disappoints me. The resolution does not. HD is the limit of human vision at normal viewing distances. You can argue that 4K would be nice for reframing, but if the human eye cannot see beyond 2K, what else is 4K is good for? And for the ability to reframe, you pay a steep price. 4K sensors will always have four times the data output and 1/4 the pixel size as a corresponding 2K sensor. Given the choice between (A) the ability to reframe shots and (B) cheaper camera, cheaper editing computer, cheaper media, faster data transfer, faster rendering, better low-light sensitivity and greater dynamic range, I will always choose the latter.

The price is a huge disappointment and immediately puts it way down the list. I'm sorry but no one is going to wanna pay $20,000 OVER list price of an Alexa. Not going to happen. No one in their right mind is going to do that, for an unproven camera, with unproven workflow, over an industry standard and industry leader... all for what? 450 fps? thats why theres highspeed camera rentals, heck of a lot cheaper than spending that kind of cash on a camera that has no real support to back it up or impressive specs. I know PS they make solid gear. But they WAY overshot the market. Sorry but this camera is DOA to most of the film industry with that price. You wont see TV shows wanting to shoot with it, nore would you see feature films pushing to shoot on it... so where is its use? nitch commercial shoots? again, Alexa, again F3... Heck I heard down the pipe line that the list price for the new Sony F65 4k camera is going to be below $100,000... who the HECK would spend $93k on a PS X35 over a SONY f65!!!??? Someone needs to wake up at PS and get with the program.

Oversampling is another reason to want 4K and even 5K - you can see a visible difference in sharpness and chocolaty creaminess between a 4K Red and a 5K Epic, even when down-sampled to 720P.

Why not just buy an Epic, or even a Red One?
