Protection Plan

I looked at some DSLRS and it is toss up between the T2I and the T3I. I have been looking online and wondering about the protections that are being offered. Is it worth getting them?

what do you mean by "protections"

are you meaning cases or body armor or insurance / extended warranties?

If in the case of extended warranties...my opinion is they aren't worth a damn. A camera like the T2i/T3i are going to be easily replaceable by the time you need the "extended" portion. Put that dough towards memory cards, lenses or accessories.

yeah, I used to work sales floors back when I was a student, and those "protection plans" are almost always a waste of money in my opinion, and I was paid to sell them to people.

Unless you scam the system, which is what every best buy sales guy pitches at the store I go to
"Buy the tv, and I'll throw in a 3 year plan for 70$ more, after 2 and a half years, just say its not as bright as it was, and get a new one for free"

that'll sure do wonders for your karma :undecided

97% of those store-sold protection plans are BS. theyre just praying on the fear and gullibility of the consumer.

Are they really that bad? The nice thing about them is that they usally also cover water damage and such. With such a plan you're usally much more free to do what you really want to do with the camera, not having to worry that 'this is bad for the shutter, it might might fall here', etc.

caveat emptor - read ALL the fine print. if the rules and exclusions sound like a good deal to you then go for it!

Insurance policies routinely cover accidental damage, in addition to theft. I pay roughly $300 a year to cover about $18,000 worth of equipment. Much better deal.

It really depends on your climate but I'm partial to this one:
