ProRes RAW

Hi All. 6 months in now since the announcement of ProRes RAW. Any new hardware or NLE apps supporting this yet? Is FCPX still the only NLE handling it? A lot of interest at ProRes RAW's release but I'm not hearing much lately? Seeing as Resolve now has BRAW BM's own RAW what do you think the likely hood of seeing ProRes RAW in Resolve.

Indeed, some folks on this forum were talking as if video went into a new era with ProRes RAW. :)

At NAB earlier this year the CEO of Atomos hinted that we wouldn't see much additional third party support for ProRes RAW before the end of the year so I'm not surprised things have been a bit quiet. Adobe accidentally listed support for the ProRes RAW in the release notes for Premiere 13 but it didn't make it this version. They updated to release notes to remove any mention the ProRes RAW but they are apparently working on adding support in some future update according to an number of people who attended their MAX conference this week.

BMRAW does seem like a fantastic addition to the ecosystem that I look forward to testing out but I'm not sure it's a ProRes RAW killer. It seems like it a great addition for BMD shooters who might have otherwise shot CDNG or a non-RAW ProRes variant and from the early reports from URSA Mini Pro beta testers it looks promising. However, I have trouble imagining ARRI, Sony, or Canon implementing the BMRAW since they already have their own RAW formats. It seems those manufacturers and Panasonic would be better served by extending their existing support ProRes to include ProRes RAW rather than giving another camera manufacturer that much control of a core product feature. Of course I am just guessing and I have no insider information about what the camera manufacturers are planning.

I'm definitely not trying to bash the format and I look for forward to testing it out once it comes out of beta.

I was mildly excited about the idea until I realized I'll probably never own a camera that shoots ProRes Raw. I'm sitting in the economy section of the industry shooting on GH cameras, Canon DSLRs and the occasional C100. I'm more likely to own a Blackmagic camera that shoots BRAW over anything that records ProRes Raw.
