FS5: ProRes RAW Dilemma on the PC

True, true...but ProRes RAW will not save you if you don't know anything else about producing motion pictures.

You're excited right now so it's understandable, but you're comparing the concept of shooting RAW in photography (1 still frame) to video where there are many more important things to consider and worry about.

Maybe also check this out for a different perceptive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoJCgDDgi74

asking the same question three times doesn't bring another answer.

coming from still photography also but 10yrs ago I highly recommend not trying to transfer these habits to motion pictures. Learn about sound recording and editing. Set exposure and white balance properly. It's different. Imagine you are shooting JPG now. Get things right in camera and don't focus on the RAW thing. Practice.
The ProRes RAW would give you an extra benefit of 15% in highlights and in dynamic range. Try to get the maximum of the 85% maximum first. I assure your clients won't see the difference of a proper 10bit 422 and a ProRes RAW. Neither they won't pay for it.
my 2cts

I have no clients. I know how to handle video. What I didn't know was ProRes RAW and how to work with it on a PC. I have better ideas now. Thanks for all the ideas. That last 15% is what I'm after and why I use APO lenses. LOL.

My advice would be to go with a system that already works. Will ProResRaw ever work with PC's - perhaps, or perhaps not...
Will Apple continue to develop and maintain ProResRaw if it doesn't become a popular standard? - also perhaps but perhaps not. Look at Apple's history of abandoning technologies and software that they no longer feel like supporting. Certainly wouldn't fill me with confidence unless Adobe, Avid and Resolve work with it.
In the past I've bought some pieces of equipment based on promised features that never came through. Shame on me!
Shooting and hoping that the edit systems will follow -- shame on you!

LOL. Not a matter of shame, but of waiting until I want to spring for a Mac.

Since a number of your questions relate to work flow wth the Atomos Shogun, I suggest getting in touch with Atomos. I am sure they will have an opinion on the playback capabilities of their product.

Michael, I just bought the shogun inferno for use with my Fs5 and it will play the raw files perfectly on my 2011 MacBook with 8gig of ram. I use a 2013 Mac Pro for editing and it runs them no problem, but I wanted to see if the old laptop would work. I only use the laptop to transfer files to a HD on location so the bar is pretty low for you to buy a used mac and FCPX for your raw workflow. You can always set FCPX to performance, and use proxies if necessary to edit.
