I am editing footage from the T2i in final cut pro. Should I convert the H.264 for editing to proes 422 or prores 422(HQ), whats the difference?
Thanks

Do 2 outputs,
1 Apple Prores 422(HQ)
&
2 Apple prores LT for editing

Once you have a lockdown on the picture you can relink back up to the 422(HQ) files for a export to do color grading and give a high res finished product.

But differently edit in LT

A follow up question:

Is ProRes 422 HQ the recommended finishing codec for footage that's been edited in ProRes 422 LT? The end destination will be the web.

I would suggest H2.64 for finishing to the web. ProRes really isn't a very good delivery codec.

I think you are a little confused by what was mention earlier. Austin M. mentioned editing in ProRes LT because it will be easier on your computer and faster to edit. But, after you are done with the edit you can delete the ProRes LT clips and your whole timeline will go offline. At this point you reconnect the clips with the ProRes HQ versions of the same clips that will stand up to color grading a little bit better. Then you export the whole thing in the end.
