i have followed Barry greens method of ps offload using a mac and p2cms and i noticed all files moved but the last.txt file. am i missing something. i followed the instructions. tried it again and did not copy the txt file. anyone come across this and overlooked something that i am overlooking as well? using pb g4 by the way. thanks

update, deleted files on mac and p2, formated card and shot another 15 seconds. opened p2cms and dumped (exported) files to folder on desktop.checked for txt file and no luck. deleted contents on p2 card (16gb) and inserted into camera with no format error. recorded another 25 seconds. loaded onto mac, exported file using p2cms and checked folder for txt file. no luck. opened up fcp and loaded all recorded files. everything worked fine. no issues. i'm a little puzzled about the txt file not copying over and i thought it should and was certain BG's walk through process said it would.

Is this the same for anyone else?

being a PC-guy, this may be stupid, but...

I ran into something similar the other day at a shoot where I was forced to use a Mac. The .txt file was locked on the card. I had to go into properties and unlock the file before I was able to copy it.

hope it helps,

Mike

I also tried Barry's process - with no success. I then followed the procedure dictated in the P2CMS user manual (which is to use the 'ingest' button and not the export function} - also no success.

The only thing that worked for me - given that P2 doesn't work as well as it should with FCP is to follow Barry's advice about locking the card, mounting the card (I use the Dual Systems Adapter) and then I manually drag and drop ALL contents (including the locked lastclp.txt file) of the card into it's own folder - ie I may contain a project within one folder - but in that folder are individual folders for each imported card.

I do NOT use the Mac (and never have) to erase or format cards - I only use the camera for those functions. This is also a good policy to use with other devices like your digital cameras' memory cards.

This is the method I was using before Barry's post - with no issues or problems from my clients - and until Panasonic upgrades P2CMS to actually work with the Mac OS - it's the method I will continue to use.

It is a shame that P2, after this much time on the market, doesn't work as seamlessly with Mac OS as it should.

there is not such thing as a stupid question i say.. we are all here to support each others issues and fixes etc. so i appreciate the feed back. I’m not complaining here regarding p2 and fcp 6.0 and p2cms not working. I just happen to notice the text file not being carried over as you would expect to see in addition to the content folder. I do not use the ingest button. i use the export-direct to hd and click ok. check my dump folder and i am still missing the txt file. i launch FCP 6.0 - log and capture - look for copied contents folder and it loads. no glitches that i can see, nothing like barry greens example of what you could get if not following his instructions.

So what im saying is that i followed his step by step instructions. The only thing i noticed that did not copy over in the copy process is the txt file. I delete (format) card on mac (pb g4 10.4.10) stick card into hvx with no format error.

i will post some pics this afternoon or over the weekend of what im doing so you all can see what has worked for me so far the past two days. Prior to this i have not tested or used a p2 card. i have been running test shots with no issues. perhaps Barry Green can chime in here and share his thoughts.

I have been using P2Log with a G4 pb and decided to use the P2CMS software after reading Barry's procedure, I did notice the same thing, no last.text file in my transfered folder.

However, once the transfer is done, I open the P2 card ( no name ) on my desktop, and drag the last.text file into the newly transfered folder.

I know it's another step, ( but fast ) and everything seems to be working fine in post.

But I too, would like to know if I am missing something in the procedure.

I use either P2 Genie of the HD Log demo to offload my P2 cards. The only downside is that there isn't a verify which P2CMS has. But P2CMS is a pain compared to HD Log demo or P2 Genie. With those I have nice folders with sequential numbers so I can transfer multiple cards over and know what is in each one.

P2CMS just stuck the contents folder on my hard drive and I have no idea what is in there.

I must admit though I haven;t played much with P2CMS because I really don;t understand it. The documentation doesn't make allot of sense and the translations aren't very good.
If they really sat down and designed it to so I really understood what I was supposed to be doing with it, maybe I'd play around with it more.

If P2 Log or HD Log Demo had a verify mode, I'd never take another look at P2CMS.

I also write protect my cards before sticking them in my G4 Powerbook and format them only in camera.
