"Proof of Concept" Fashion Film

Hi,

I just redid the color grading for a "proof of concept" fashion film I shot some time ago. The project unfortunately was cancelled, but I would like to know what other people think about the clip i.e. directing, editing, cinematography and color grading. The models are friends of mine who never modelled before, so don't be to harsh on their acting. The Clip was shot on a Canon 550D with Technicolor CineStyle and a Nikon 55m AI-s macro lens.

And if you have some spare minutes, I would love to hear what you think about my website www.deep-white.eu ... I've been working on it for some time and don't see the mistakes any more. So don't hold back with your critique.

Thanks
David

I personally don't go for the 'soft' image look. David Hamilton has been making these sort of still images for years... and people apparently like his style... but I don't...

Example:

If this was a 'fashion' shoot, I think there was a bit too little of details on the girl's garments. Who is your audience. Women, young women..., wanting something sexy. Or men, who have girlfriends that can be told what to buy... (never worked for me...).

I personally tend to think of B&W as a 'classy' style... even if a bit gritty... but I don't care for the 'fuzz' in color shots... Muted colors sure... just not to hot on the haze.

Other issues I had.

1) On a number of shots the light seemed a bit low. I would have liked to have seen a bit brighter lighting on the girls relative to the background.
2) Focus some of the shots had 'soft focus' transitioning to 'sharp', but then the sharp focus shot was 'cut' rather quickly.
3) While the girls were slim, some of the angles/body motions brought out 'wrinkles', which some may object to.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes, the instagram look is kinda "old" but that's what the client wanted when he contacted me in the first time.

It's true that some of the shots are underexposed... tried to correct it as good as possible.

My main problem is these girls don't look of legal age, to many close ups, to many micro jitters. Also I don't really agree with the directing, it seemed like something that was going to really lead into some kind of porn flick.

What I did like though was the grading, some nice angles and you had a great location.

Next time you do something like this use different lenses, you'd be surprise how great a distant wide angle shot could look in the mist of so many close ups. Secondly these girls look to young, sorry...... Overall I would say you have a good idea here, you just need to make it come to life better, I see the potential.
