Professional APS-C Video Camera from Canon

Completely untrue. There's a reason Cinema Lenses exist. Optics are just one, Mechanics is just another HUGE reason.

Regardless of the RED having a Canon and Nikon mount option, most people are STILL using Professional Cinema Lenses.

But I'll bite, because if Canon does this then things will really get hairy from here on out. Canon, in my own opinion, has had a bit of a cuthroat reputation after the A1 release gutting their H1 line-up.

Kholi, I think you got me the wrong way, when I stated that the word "professional" is misused. I agree 100% with you that REAL professional gear is professional for some reason.

I personally see such a camera like the one described here rather in the EX3 area and therefore quite below the RED1. (Though some might use it AS IF IT WAS a RED1 and get impressive results - just like they did with the 5D)

For many of us the fact that today you can get very far with not totally professional gear is more fascinating than the fact that professional equipment is better and will always be. For some reason this is still called DVXuser...

Vaporware; like 80% of Canonrumors stuff, this is more BS than true. I don't know about you, however I will put my concerns on what we really know is coming and not something that we don't.. Some times this place feels like a day time soap opera were we need some new drama to keep the wheels spinning or people get bored. First it was the rebel, yap yap yap, the GH1, yap yap yap. Now that all the crumbs have been eating off the table, people have gone to the floor to scrape up what's left...........

Canon are missing a trick here with this new machine, without 20p it's going to bomb, the whole of the 20fps community will simply look elsewhere.

The last rumor was dead on. I wouldn't be surprised to see this at NAB. Nothing really radical, except a probable US$10k price.

The 56Mb/s recording doesn't make sense. Too fast for class 6 SDHC and way below CF speeds. However, it may be close to their processing speeds. What is missing is that the protocol could easily be a 10-bit, 4:2:2 which is right there in the MPEG4 Part 10 specs.

Even more interesting is the RAW processing. The Bayer color filter arrays imply color processing in post. RED and SI2k do it. What it allows is full color manipulation in post: demosaicing and all the rest.

I doubt the 12k sensor. The only cameras doing that has two adjoining photo sites processed at different exposures. One is Genesis, the other is the still Fuji EXR. If they did that it would be a huge advance. If not, 8Mp seems a way more manageable number and uses larger photo sites which are less noise susceptible.

If they have an EOS mount, any lens with an adapter should work in manual mode. However, they could easily have the electronics favor their glass. Fortunately, their glass (and sensors) are pretty damn good.

I don't think this is a bad rumor, just think it is a 2009 rumor not a 2010.

As for Nikon, maybe. However, I would expect Samsung, Sony, and maybe Olympus and Pentax also to jump in. The odd man out may be Panasonic (who is closest now with the GH-1) because (I believe) they have a new lineup with AVC Intra and HPX300 sensors about to launch.

In a way you're right. But one year ago all this would have been science fiction, now it ist tecnically possible. That's the exciting part of all that chatter: It could happen here & now. Simply extrapolating the evolution from the d90 to the 5D to the GH1 - there will be soon something like that camere described on Canon Rumors. But I definitely won't wait until 2010, I will get something else this year.

While we wait for the new toys from panasonic, nikon, and possibly others all we have to do is yap....it's mostly just airing frustration because we are bored with our old toys and they were broken when we got them.

Sure a lot of the rumour site stuff is BS but occasionally things like the D400 book in July slip.

The D400 is a replacement for the D300 so no it's expected to have a DX sensor. The D800 will be full frame but I don't think that will be till the end of the year.

for 8 grand you would expect so. but it already sounds too big and clunky for my liking. A D800 would do just nicely
