Production value VS. shot quality.

it's all about priorities. To the dismay of many DP's (myself included), content is typically the most important aspect of a film and production value comes second. That being said, it all comes down to how out of focus or usable the shot is. Nobody can have a valid opinion on this unless they actually saw the shot and the rest of the footage you have. There are plenty major motion pictures that have average scenes and actors are clearly not in sharp focus but it's still acceptable to most viewers. Even though content should be your first priority that doesn't mean you can neglect everything else for the sake of content...it's a balancing act. You often have to save a project with creative editing and extra footage you have if you get back from production and realize something wasn't shot properly and there is no time/budget to revisit. Do what's best for the particular project, this will showcase your strengths as a director.
