Problems with this workflow?

I'm shooting a five minute short with an HVX (my first time) onto an FS-100 Firestore, and plan on an incredibly simple workflow:

Transfer the footage to two Lacie drives. One to run for FCP editing on a G5, and another just for footage backup. Output is H.264 for the web.

Is this a risky or problematic workflow? Having read loads of posts about other workflows I'm starting to feel like it is too simple to work well. I also don't know much about HD post so any help would be appreciated.

PS I'm shooting 720 24pN onto the Firestore. Is it possible to record to tape simultaneously for backup purposes?

Why use a Fire Store? Just shoot and dump to External HDD. that is what I do. I love it. When the CinePorter comes out, it will be on.

Also If I am right from what the manual says you cant record at the same time to both DV and P2. but you can record and then dub over. I would still look at the manual because I am not quite sure. ;)

I think Jones is right...

I'm pretty sure Jones is right and can not record simultaneously. You can only dump it to tape after the fact (one of the dub modes listed in the manual). Though its not that great of a backup option frankly. You're shooting HD DVC Pro 100 to the P2 and the internal tape unit is only a mini-DV DV 25 recorder.

cheers.

I totally missed his P.S. Yea, no go on the pn to FS. So it sounds like you will have to just record to a FCP, or dump to external HDD

wow that certainly changes things. the rental house from which i was going to get the equipment doesn't stock p2 cards, only the fs-100. looks like i'm going to take my renting elsewhere, and just dump P2s to external HDD through a powerbook. any recommendations for how to go about this transfer process?
