Split Screen Problems

Wait until december. Get a refund adn don't bother with the exchanges. I went through a brutal headache with JVC in exchanging one defective camera for another.

Once the canon and panny is out it will allow you to make a truly informed decision.

That's exactly what I did, returned it, I am not going to deal with getting multiple defective units, and I spoke with a Doug Mullin, a JVC engineer, and he explained that all cameras have there limitations and this camera does have issues in lower light situations. I am like UNACCEPTABLE, to have this split screen isssue. So I returned the camera,
I just want others who might be in my situation, to use extreme caution, who wants to deal with getting one that doesn't have the problem, what about in the future, I am waiting for the canon to resucue me, shame on JVC

I am not going to be a guinea pig, waiting for firmware updates and what not, b.s.
I want a camera that works flawlessly now.

Question here for me is, why are some people having this and other's aren't? Some people say their cams are fine.
Probably mixed stock. Original run vs. later runs. We'll see....

Kinda like a new car with new technology (like 4 wheel steering or something) you wait until its been out a while and they get the bugs and recalls worked through when it faces real world use.
Look at all the recalls autos have, and yet we still continue to buy their product. hmmmm.
I think its stupid to get mad and say "well, all will be better when panasonic or cannon comes out with their new product". Personally as a professional, I haven't seen anything from canon thats professional or worth a s*** And everybody thinks sony is the bomb but I'll never buy another sony cause their pixels go bad after 2 years...I'm talking 12-20k cameras! I worked with 4 of them from 1999-2001 and they ALL developed bad pixels after 2 years. I called Sony and they told me "yeah that's typical" hmmmm. Think not. All I'm saying is that all these guys have quirks and defects with their products. JVC is right when they say that. I have seen it more than once myself. Unless of course you are buying Ikegami..they are PERFECT! lol. (and pricy)

Yeah first time poster, all the more important

Yeah this is my first time posting, what does that invaladate my expierence? quite the opposite, if the camera worked I wouldn't be complaining, It's like that old adtag, you tell more people if something doesn't work, or if you have a bad expeirence, I bought this camera and am pisst off!! The camera was unaccaptable, and any one thinking of getting one should test it in the store and be aware, also why would you want to buy a camera when lots of people are having problems with it, there will be less wide spread adapotion of the JVC and it's deck.

Just shooting outside under a very well lite street exterior, it is horrible, just shooting indoor under normal florecents, aim the camera in the corner or where it is a little darker.

Just beware if your buying this camera,

whats this split screen issue? never seen a Hd100 s i have no idea
More than you could ever read is over on DVInfo.net. Basically under certain circumstances the JVC delivers a picture that is split right down the center, the left half looks slightly different than the right half. It is a source of much discussion and ongoing research to figure out when it happens, why it happens, which firmware versions it happens on, how to minimize it, whether it'll be fixed, etc.

Yeah once we bought one of the first DVCPRO cameras that came out, right out of the box the dam thing wouldn't recorded. Just kept giving a hardware error. It took Panasonic almost 6 months! to fix the dam thing!!!! Also I've seen dead pixels on sony's too.

I'm right there with you. I bought a Sony back in 2000 that spent 4 months at Sony direct in Chicago. I waited and waited and waited for them to fix the F43 error code. They finally did. 6 months later the F43 error returned and since I purchased an extended warranty the camera was replaced with a newer run which never had an F43 to this day.

Bought Panasonic back in '03, it went back for replacement for problems right out of the box.

It'd be nice if people could wise up. The HD-100 has some problems on it's first run. OK. Other than a couple of real issue that are being addressed, the camera is a home run.

Yeah I guess thats what happens when you get the first run of the production cameras. I had a little issue when the DV500 first came out the famous head clog warning, but I am glad to say that JVC gave me excellent support I shipped the camera back and had it fixed and returned in less then a week. And from the looks of it, JVC has been having a quick turn around with the HD100.

I think the biggest grips are that with the amount we pay, we are much more bothered when things go wrong. I mean if it was a 100 DVD player, then we will say oh well take it back and have it replaced or fixed and we won't think much about it, but a 5000 camera people start to freak out. I is a lot of money to have at stake.

I really want to get this camera. I need a new one, I am still shooting with my DV500, still working fine though.

Also another question, does the spit screen happen in Standard Definition? DV footage?

Do new users have to butter us up first with some cheerleading?

No offense, but I would be weary of first time posters that trash a camera on their very first post.

Why?

Please don't bad mouth first time posters. We were all there once too. Also, many people who have purchased the HD100 are in fact joining these forums to discuss their issues with the camera. Reporting both good and bad I might report.

Let me throw my two bits in regarding the split screen while I'm at it here. Return your camera JVC will be releasing a new line of HD100's possibly within the next 3 months, but definately within the next six. Remember it has been noted by JVC that each and every hd100 unit has the split screen defect. My experience is that dealers will be upfront about the refund policy, however there are many that are not saying a thing about the Split screen problem. Demo the camera and do specific testing regarding the SSE issue before you buy and ask yourself if you can live with the defect. At this point with the initial line of cameras released this is what JVC would have you do. However it is not up to them to refund your money. It's your dealers decision, and most have a very limited statue of limitations on returns. Don't bother wasting your time with exchanges either, because as I mentioned, every single unit in North America has the Split Screen issue. You can be put on a very very long waiting list to have your camera properly calibrated in New Jersey. That's right new jersey and only new jersey. But given the growing waiting list you my-as-well wait for the new line of hd100 cameras to emerge. A new and much improved lens is promised, and the split screen defect will be resolved.
