Problems with Firestore 3.0

Hello

I am having a couple of problems with my HVX and the new firestore version.

1. My firestore will not let me shoot 720 24p in P2 PN mode. Everytime I press record the firestore will tell me "no space left" and I just formatted the drive. I can shoot every other mode including 720 30p and 60p and 1080i 24, but the 720 24p will not work.

2. For some reason I cannot remove the advaced pulldown from final cut anymore. I shot stuff 720 24p and it came in at 720 60p even though I had the remove advanced pulldown checked?

3. The quicktime pn files that I shoot will not work in Final cut. If I could get an answer to this question, the other three don't matter.

Thanks

I've never seen this one. After making certain that all of your camera and FS-100 settings are indeed correct, try doing a reset of the device from the Utilities menu.

As far as FCP issues, which version of FCP? What do you mean by "will not work"?

I am using FCp 5.1.2. When I try to import the quictime files, there is an FCP error. Also when I try to play them, there is an error mesage. Maybe I sholud ask, is there any proper way to import a quicktime from the Firestore to FCP?

Thanks again

Assuming you shot Quicktime PN, you copy the resulting folder to your editing drive from the FS, and then choose import folder in FCP

I finally got it imported but the video is corrupted. There is noise everywhere. I would much raher the p2 pn to work.

Let's start from the beginning:

1. What settings have you tried with the FS100?

2. What has happened with each of the settings when you use the files and how in FCP?

The first problem:

HVX200 - 720 24p
Firestore - P2 PN
Problem - the firestore will not record and says "no space left"

second problem

HVX200 - 1080i 24
Firestore - P2 PN
Problem - FCP still ingests at 60 fps

third

HVX200 - 720 24p
Firestore - quicktime PN
Problem - Fcp does not recognize quicktime and when it did, the video was just noise

My preference is to shoot 720 24p but if can't I will shoot 1080 24 p. I am going to test that right now

Thanks for the help, I emailed focus about the problems but from reading the forum, it doesn't look like the are much help.

Hey Craig,

I just upgraded my fs-100 to V.3 and I'm also having the same problem.

I just shot 720/24p over 60 in the film mode and captured to PN format on the FS100.

The purpose was to do a ramp down/up in a 24p timeline in AE7.

It captured and worked great.

So I am wondering if you need to reformat or reinstall the upgrade or contact Focus.

I have come to the conclusion that it is definitely a problem with our Firestores. The problem is that Focus is not too helpful. I sent them an e-mail and the quoted me the press release for the firestore fs100! I am trying everyway possible to get in touch with Matt but he hasn't messaged me back.

Psmokes, I have tried every possible shooting mode with the camera and firestore, the only one that will work for you is the 1080 24PA if you set the firestore to P2 PN. This is if you have the same problem as me. Also the quicktime PN will not work.

Thanks Craig.

Yeah I have also sent a email to Focus but haven't gotten a reply yet. This still doesn't solve the problem of not being able to shoot in 720 PN. If the problem is the Firestore, how do we fix it?

If you find the solution to this problem, please let me know.

Thanks again.
Ethan

I am experiencing the same problem. I just upgraded my FS100 today and it says "No space left" when I try to shoot in P2N mode. I am shooting in camera 720 24P. If anybody has a solution it would be greatly appreciated...I've tried everything. I have a shoot tomorrow. I am already not happy with Focus because they sent my upgrade disc regular mail when I paid for UPS next day air to make sure it would get to me in time for my shoot. Luckily I caught it and they fixed the situation, but that doesn't matter because the update doesn't work.

I guess I will hold off again on the firestore.
Maybe the Cineporter can come out so I can buy that now.

I need something as I am going to be doing more EVENTS this summer.

Cards are great for commercials, of indie films, but not as good as hard drive for long events.

The Firestore works great for events, have used mine for a few already. This issue has to due with the 3.0 firmware upgrade. The Firestore is rock solid for event recording and I would recommend it to anyone. I haven't upgraded mine yet just to see if there are any bugs to be worked out yet, and looks like we found some. I guess I'll wait a month or two til I upgrade. Some of the things to look at could be that some other settings within the firestore got changed during the upgrade, maybe double check everything, and see what you can find.

Of course anyone who buys an FS-100 now may get the V3.0 firmware whether they like it or not. All units manufactured after February 1st 2007 come with V3.0.

I can tell you right up front the problem using FS's PN mode with 1080i. Cause the HVX doesn't do 1080i Native at all. Meaning, there's no metadata to flag frames for a Native mode. The FS-100 will not do Native modes the HVX won't do.

There are flags in the data stream. FireStore could implement it if they wanted to, and curiously they've already implemented it for SD -- you can record SD with automatic 24pA pulldown removal (if I read the manual correctly), so there's no real obstacle towards them implementing the same technique for 1080.

I've been using v3.0 with my firestore, and can report that I haven't had any problems whatsoever over the course of a week-long shoot in 720p24 and P2 PN settings on the firestore.

It has actually been a great upgrade, because I am working on a feature documentary and have been out shooting for 8 hours at a time, and haven't needed to offload the FS now that I can record 270 minutes of footage. I've undercranked and overcranked in P2 PN mode, and that hasn't caused any problems, either.

Sorry to hear of the problems you've all been having.
