Problems transcoding AVCHD in FCP

So I just purchased a brand new 8-Core MacPro running FCP Studio 2. I shot some footage with my Panasonic HMC40 and tried to transcode using "Log and Transfer". However, the moment I try to ingest from the SD card, FCP "Unexpectedly Quits". I tried transferring the folders exactly as they are on the card to the harddrive and import from there, same result. I'm able to import/transcode them using iMovie just fine. I'm even able to then drop those clips into my FCP timeline and edit. No problem. Right now, that's my work-around. However, I OBVIOUSLY should be able to transcode using "Log and Transfer". Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

By the way, I already searched the forums for similar problems but haven't found any quite like this.

As you have mentioned, I believe you have a FCP issue.
Have you tried trashing FCPs preferences? Often this is a good place to start when you encounter unusual behavior. There is a free program from Digital Rebellion called Preference Manager that allows you to do this without searching for the actual preference files themselves. It also allows you to back up your freshly created preferences with any modifications you've made so that the next time you trash preferences you can then restore from your saved backup.

Here is a link to their website...

How was FCS 2 installed? Was it clean install from the original discs, or did you use time machine, migration assistant, or archive and install?

Are you up to FCP 6.0.6?

David,

I installed FCP2 from the original discs. But I haven't downloaded any updates for it yet. Do you think that could be the problem?

Bingo! Thanks David. Turned out I needed several updates. Now everything's working like clockwork. Thanks a lot.

Thanks to you too, mmaller. I actually trashed my preferences and started fresh anyway, just in case. You guys rock :)
