Problems tranferring files from Camera to PC

As the title says,

I have off loaded many minute clips on to my computer from the camera and when I have a scene with 7 minutes long and I'm trying to dump it to my desktop(PC) this alert pops up

"the I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request"

Everything else came off nice and easy... Do I need to use a card reader? or is it something with the camera? What thread? What application do I need?

I have tried using EOS utility, Microsoft image, and simply dragging and dropping.

I have the 5D MKll over a year and found that you have to use a card reader for long clips.

I had the same problem with my 2 years old Toshiba labtop and 7D, especially with long duration shots.But a friend of mine's new labtop had no problem to transfer them..
