Problems log & transfer 24p footage in FCP7

I'm having a problem log & transferring footage that was shot in DVCPRO HD 1080i24p.

In FCP, I go to New Project then set up my system settings.

I go Easy Setup from Final Cut Pro.
Format->Panasonic DVCPRO HD
Rate-> 23.98fps
Use->DVCPRO HD 720p24 (DVCPRO HD 1080pA24 the other choice)

File->Log and Transfer and capture my footage. After that's done and I bring a clip into the timeline and check frame by frame, they go up to 29 then 0 ?! I do an apple I on the mov clip and under "more info" Codecs DVCPRO HD (1080p30), Linear PCM, Timecode

I test shot more footage with 24fps and still the same problem. What am I doing wrong?

First of all it cannot be 1080i (interlaced) and 24p. Maybe that was just a typo. It's highly recommended when shooting 1080/24p to use the 24pA (advanced mode).

Do not use the easy setup for 720p24, instead select 1080p24pA. In the preferences for Log and Transfer check the box to "remove advanced pulldown".

Point to your CONTENTS directory (if you transferred the P2 card to your computer) and your clips will load in. Select your import settings in the L&T window and "add clips to queue".

From there, in your project browser you should see each clip that can then be dropped onto the timeline. Confirm they are listed as 23.98 fps. Drop them into the timeline and nothing else should be required.

Hope this helps...
Dan.

Thanks Dan. I'm not sure if its correct, but I think I found my solution to make it 24fps. All I did was select the clip and I went to Tools in FCP and ran Cinema Tools Reverse Telecine and that fixed the pull down issue.

Yes, that should take care of that. If you're importing 1080 clips into a 720 easy setup project, then unless you changed that, my guess is when you dropped clips into your timeline, FCP asked if you wanted to change the sequence settings to match your clip settings. If you selected yes, then FCP took care of the rest for you.

i have the panasonic hvx 200a. i have recently filmed a couple of projects in 720p/24pn recording format. after saving to my hard drive from the cards i have received a message in fcp when trying to log and transfer which reads "warning Card 1(which i name the contents folder) contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media." Does any have the answer for dealing with this issue.

You cannot change the name of the CONTENTS folder. Leave that name and all subfolders intact as they are. If you are saving to your hard drive, you can create a directory (such as Card 1 5-23-10, for example) and copy the P2 card there, but do not change the file structure or naming conventions of the P2 data. That is the error FCP is giving you.
