problems focusing at short focal lengths

Is there a way to make the focus ring less sensitive? When I am at a short focal length I only need to move the focus ring a couple degrees and the focus goes from close to infinity. I also tried to set the "sensitivity" of the focus ring in the "customize menu" to slow but it doesn't make a difference at short focal lengths. The way it is now it is almost impossible for me to pull focus precisely...

Well yes. I have the same issue, and others, with how the A1 focuses. But I think there's little one can do about it. For me it's an annoyance that I can usually work around.

I use one of those cheap $30 lanc controllers. It has two buttons to fine tune focus incrementally. It works quite well.

Thanks for the replays. I suspected that it was a user error on my side but as it looks it is just a bad design on canon's part...
