C300: Problems clipping on 1/8" mic input

Does anyone else have problems with the 1/8" input clipping? My peaks aren't anywhere near the 0db (more like -15db) and it still clips the audio. I don't know if it has anything to do with my setup. I'm running a 1/8" splitter with a Rode VideoMic Pro into one side and a Sennheiser G3 Reciever into the other. Both can clip. But I can't determine a pattern. When it happens, why, why one will clip and the other won't. Just curious if anyone else has seen this.

It's a C300. And I do adjust the levels, but the peaks aren't anywhere near the top. I definitely disabled AGC for the XLRs, but I'll check to make sure there isn't a separate setting when using 1/8". I have the limiter on, I don't know if for some reason that is creating the issue or not with the 1/8" input. The limiter works well with the XLR inputs.

If you're don't get clipping when you just plug in a single mic, then the splitter cable that you're using may be throwing off the impedance balance of the mic input on the camera. Those inputs are only designed to interface with a single mic.

The solution is to plug the Sennheiser 3G into an XLR input (the kit you bought should have come with an XLR output cable for the receiver). Get a Rode VXLR adapter for your VideoMic Pro and plug it into the the other XLR input.

Yeah you may be right about the impedance issue, although I never had any problems with this when I was using DSLRs. I'll have to run a few more test to see. I have a setup for XLRs, I was just hoping to also have a setup for 1/8" when I want to be stripped down. Maybe the Rode VideoMic HD might do the trick when it is available.

Have you tried a short F-XLR to M-1/8" stereo cable yet? You'll need a hotshoe mic mount but you could then use an NTG-2 or something like it that didn't require phantom power. I've never tried it so I'm really not sure that it would work.
