Problem with Clip Browser 2.6 -Mac

Have had my F3 for three days now and have been recording everything to CF on my KiProMini. All is great with no problems. Today I decided to check out the files from my SxS cards, followed the same process with Clip Browser 2.6 that I've done a thousand times with files from my EX-1. After mounting the card in the expresscard slot in my MBP, selecting the card in the browser window of CB, all of the thumbnail images of the files are blacked out with a "X" in their corner. They wont play, import, show metadata, duration, nothing. Quit CB and tried XDCAM Transfer and all worked perfect. Thumbnails showed, played in preview fine and imported fine as well. Some might ask why not just use XDCAM Transfer?, I've always used Clip Browser for imports because of it's data protection and CRC check after import. I'll probably be using my KPM 90% of the time but would like to figure out this problem with CB. Has anyone else experienced this?..

Tech:
F3 is firmware 1.2
Clip Browser is most current version, 2.6
Used both SxS Pro and MXR Extreme cards, same results
SxS drivers are up to date as of today

Thanks guys..

Try uninstalling and reinstalling clip browser. this EXACT same thing happened to me (same setup as well) . it was not the camera, it was clip browser. it did make me really gun shy though! If the Kipro hadn't been getting good images, I would have been convinced the camera wasn't actually recording anything. at the time this happened to me, I was on 2.4 and upgraded to 2.6 after I encountered the problem. the upgrade fixed it for me, and I haven't seen the issue since. good luck!

edit.

noticed you said 1.2 for your firmware. I just upgraded to that, so I should probably test clip browser before I say it works for me! all I know is the previous two firmware versions worked fine once I upgraded to 2.6. I am going to test it now though.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your advice based on your experience. I tried exactly what you said and no luck, same results with CB and success with XDCAM Transfer. Wonder if the 1.2 firmware has anything to do with it?.. Can any of you guys who've also updated to 1.2 try out your version of Clip Browser and see if it works for you?

Thanks everyone..

well then! looks like it was the firmware update. I am now getting the black box as well...that kinda sucks! anyone else?

That would actually make sense. Five of the first clips on the SxS did show in CB, I must of shot those just before upgrading to 1.2 from 1.1. I predict a v. 1.2.1 arriving soon hopefully..

or a new clip browser. Now I have to figure out a new workflow for AVID MC6, seeing as AMA isn't working with sony right now. bad time for upgrades I guess!

Hasn't the old Sony Clip Browser been replaced by XDCAM Browser V1.3 ?
I think version 1.2 came with the F3 but 1.3 plays nicely with Lion on a mac and firmware 1.2.

I'm told all the functions are incorporated and Clip Bowser won't see any new versions?

Clip Browser is no longer supported fully by Sony. They've moved over to XDCAM Browser, which is the software they are choosing to maintain. Sony probably didn't even test the new firmware against the old Clip Browser software.

wow. how did I miss that memo? downloaded and installed. all is right in the world.

thanks everyone!

A lot of people steered clear of XDCAM Browser when it first came out as it was missing many features of Clip Browser. Version 2.0 of XDCAM Browser has pretty well all the features of the previous software (both XDCAM Clip Browser and XDCAM Transfer)plus more. I was pleasantly surprised when it first launched it. Too bad Sony didn't make it clear version 2 of XDCAM Browser was a landmark release of this application.

People can find the software towards the bottom of the linked page. Both Mac and Windows versions...

Yup, that solved the problem. I remember when they first launched it and people were mentioning it's shortcomings, never installed it and basically forgot about it. Thanks for everyone's input..

there is a major issue with AVID MC6 regarding progressive frame rates as far as I can tell, so if you are still on 5.5, stay there. the new firmware should be fine there.
