Vegas and DVCPRO HD

to Vegas supporting DVCPRO HD?

Don't hold your breath... at least not while it's under it's current ownership.

Raylight is pretty much the way to go if you are a Vegas user.

I got raylight to work with footage from an HMC150. My first attempt with Raylight. Seems like it works pretty slick.

Hi Kurtmo.

How was the workflow (transcoding time and compatilibity)? Did you transcoded in DVCPro HD?

Yup, I'm using the mainconcept transcoder. Never used Raylight or DVCProHD footage before. Seems to work for all sizes and frame rates.

My friend edited HVX-202 footage on Vegas using a 3rd party program called Cineform NeoHD. He had no problems exporting it as an uncompressed 1920x1080 10 bit file. You can purchase Cineform NeoHD for $500, so yes, you can edit HVX footage in Vegas after all.

If you're using Vegas 8 it may work becasue it runs as a 32-bit application. But with Vegas 9, no; Sony changed the plugin archtecture for Vegas 9, and we had to rewrite the plugin from top to bottom. You have to get Ultra to use P2 MXF files with Vegas 9.

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know if V9 takes advantage of 8 cores (16 threads) with two Quad Xeons?

Raylight will use up to 8 cores for playback and rendering; not sure about the other parts of Vegas.

Very cool... so if you are editing MXF's you should get the full benefit of a dual Xeon station unless Vegas' VFX or transitions don't themselves. Does that sound about right?

Ive got an HMC150 and have just got the mainconcepts transcoder work but found out Vegas wont eat the files :(

I looked at the page for this system and it looks like its $150. Is there a cut down version that just interfaces Vegas to the file format or do you have to cough for the full package (which is close the price I paid for Vegas Pro 8 on OEM CD from B&H).

Thanks,

Rik

What version of Vegas do you have? If it's 9.0 or later, you should be able to drag and drop the HMC150 files directly into the timeline.

Most versions of the files will also work in 8.0.

Its Vegas Pro 8.0c Ive got, 32bit on XP. Vegas randomly locks up on the AVCCAM footage and preview is slow so I thought transcoding would help.

Decent PC too, Q6600 OC'd to 3.4GHz per core / 4gb RAM etc.
