I am trying to shoot with any mode at this point, but the camera (XHA1) is not responding when I turn the dial. If I try VCR or EXT. mode, it works. Why is this?

Check your switch near the record button. I'll bet it's on lock. Turn it to standby and everything should work.

Oh how stupid I feel. Last night, the first thing I did was try the standby/lock switch and the camera wouldn't power on after trying. Then, I figured it had to have been a dead battery. I charged the battery and put it in my camera today and it still didn't work; reason being, I left the lock on last night from trying to turn it on... Hah!

We've all been there,.. done that. The good thing is that is ISN'T a more serious problem. From here you can chalk it up as a learning experience, and at least it's pretty certain it won't happen again!
