C300: Problem with C300mark2!!

just picked up the camera, but there's a problem, everytime I shut it of, all functions return to factory mode, firmware is greyed out but says: 1.01.1.00 probably the problem is solved with firmware but can't find any on canon site. 15 mm CarlZeiss is unusable on the camera as well.

You need to plug the camera into wall power while the camera is off to charge the internal battery for ideally 24 hours. It's in the manual for the C100. The internal battery is what keeps the settings you set as well as the clock running.

thanks for your reply, I will do that. I hope this will help. Must say I think it's odd, have never heard this before, but still thanks

it's not possible to stop down and the camera doesn't recognise it, same goes for the 50 mm. I tried a sigma 24-105 and that works just fine. the strange thing is that at first the '15' flickered in the camera for a while, now it's just blank in the camera.

problem of getting back to factory defaults persists!!! so it wasn't just enough to put in the lithium battery????

been doing some research, internal new lithium is not having enough power, according to display info. seems odd that a new camera comes with a sealed but nearly empty lithium battery. it explains the flickering of the '15' from the CZ

thanks for helping me out, lithium is ok now and power as well.
Problem with Carl Zeiss lenses persists, any of you have an idea what it can be?

So the all manual lenses behave differently than EOS compatible electronic lenses, hmmmmm...

Zeiss EF lenses are full manual/non electronic and don't communicate with a camera.
Stoping down is done at the lens, not through the C300 as with the sigma lens you mentioned.

I don't know what you're talking about, please don't tell things that aren't true.
I use them all of the time on my C300.

May be true of legacy MF lenses, but from Zeiss website:

"The manually focusable ZE lenses (for EF mount) feature electronic shutter control and additional electronic contacts to the camera. All existing exposure programs (P, AV, TV, M) and the AF confirmation function of the camera are supported; lens information (focal length and speed) is passed on to the camera. Certain functions that require the use of AF lenses (various scene modes, A-DEP) are partially unavailable."

There are varying degrees of support for different cameras as outlined at http://www.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/...s_the_difference/camera_mounts/ze_lenses.html - although that list references still cameras, but it makes me wonder how you perform a firmware update on a ZE lens if that was needed.

Unfortunately some 3rd party lenses do not work uniformly across different Canon cameras. I've had issues with a lens that works perfectly well on my 5Dmk3, but would start to flicker on my C300mk1 after the C300mk1 firmware upgrade that gave us WideDR. It still flickers on my C300mk1 with the latest firmware. Surprisingly the same lens does not flicker on my C300mk2!!!

The solution to avoid flickering is to tape over the Canon contacts and run the lens completely manually. Obviously that's not a solution if the lens has electronic iris.

I tracked my flickering issue to Canon's automatic compensation for wide aperture where the camera tries to brighten the corners of the image to compensate for non-rectilinear lenses. This is not the same as Peripheral Illumination Correction and it can't be turned off in any menu.

BTW. Same issue with Lithium battery on C300mk2 here. It needed to charge before settings would stick.

thanks for the insight, I thought I was the only one.
regarding your remark, could it be that with a better charged lithium, the carl zeiss would work? or is that wishful thinking?

I don't understand what you mean (as well as an earlier reply on this forum) what you mean by 'running the lens manually', it has no iris that you can control by hand. to be more specific, I am talking about these lenses:15mm.jpgScreen Shot 2015-10-31 at 21.49.44.jpg

I doubt the Lithium Battery has anything to do with the flickering. If it does, please let me know!

My flickering problem was with a lens with mechanical iris. Taping over EF contacts simply disabled any electronic contact with the camera and solved my problem.
Obviously, taping over the EF contacts isn't an option for your lenses with electronic iris!
My guess is that Zeiss needs to offer a firmware upgrade of your lenses. Or a swap of the electronics. I doubt Canon will offer any firmware upgrade that fixes incompatibilities with 3rd party lenses.
