Problem with a FD lens

Hi all!
Just bought a Vivitar 28mm f2 lens from ebay (canon fd bayonet) but it seems that the aperture's not working, I've an adapter from Adriano Lolli (italian) and it worked pretty well with a canon 50mm f1,8.

Maybe the lens is faulty or I'm doing something wrong :undecided
the aperture seems stuck at f2,8, don't know if return the item or try to poen it and solve the mystery.

any opinons?
thanks! :cheesy:

I've heard that some of the non-Canon FD lenses can get the aperture stuck fully open. Better to be stuck fully open than fully closed.

If it is stuck fully open, it should be at 2.0 and not 2.8. Are you sure you've fully tightened the adapter onto the lens? Sometimes, the adapter hasn't fully seated and you need to twist a little more for it to lock the aperture fully open.

Old Vivitar lenses are NOTORIOUS for the aptertures getting stuck just as you've mentioned. I have a 28/2 also - same problem, but at f/2 it's pretty good and that's the reason i got it anyways so i just only use it at f/2

Sorry, my fault! It's stuck at f2... yep, it's better at f2 then f16, but in this way is barely useless, Ican't shoot always at f2 (and I payed also 50€)
Do you know what the problem could be?

Let me guess: the filter thread of the lens is 55mm and the serial number starts by 22.. True?
If so it is a Vivitar lens made by Kiron. It is a common issue with older Kiron lenses to have stuck aperture due to oil or grease on the aperture blades that keep the iris stuck wide open. I have personal experience from a Kiron FD 24 f 2.0.
It is nothing serious though and this can be readily fixed by a lens specialist near you. I have had mine repaired at a local shop for 35 Eur and it works like a charm now.
