problem viewing footage

anyone know why footage plays back perfectly from my P2 card when it's in the slot on my powerbook, but when i try to play it back from a saved position on my desktop it doesn't play back? (FCP 5.1.4)

(i have to import the saved footage into FCP to view/edit it- i'd rather pick and choose before I import all of it into a project)

How are you playing the "footage" on your desktop?

Are you actually copying the contents of the p2 card or simply creating an alias of it?

yeah me too. if i import into fcp directly from the card, i can preview the clips before importing. but if i transfer the p2 data to my hard drive and then import into fcp, i can import the clips but can't preview first. anybody have a fix for this?

Macs are still a little funny about P2. you jsut gotta run with it till they fix it.
