i have final cut pro 5, a power book G4 with 1.67 GHz processor, 1 GB of DDR SDRAM. i have a slot that accepts the P2 card but can not for the life of me import anything. it doesn't show as a drive on my desktop either?? any ideas? do i need FCP 5.1?

thanks for the driver! now i recognise the p2 card and can drag th efiles to my desk top. but they are XML files which i can't import straight into final cut pro. what to do?:)

Are you using the import p2 card function?

Have you downloaded Apple HVX200 workflow pdf?

Taken a look a shane ross tutorial?

Go here http://p2genie.andersholck.com and you shall find the help you need.
P2Genie does copy the files from your P2 card onto your Powerbook's hard disc
from where you can import them into FCP. Read the above mentioned workflow
guide to know more about necessary steps and procedures.

Hope this helps.

thanks david.s i have downloaded the pdf on HVX200 HD workflow and it is very usefull, but it doesn't resolve my problem with importing from P2 card into fcp. i open fcp insert P2 card go to file-import-panasonic P2. then the files pop up inthe dialogue box as they should, then when i go to import i get this dialogue box that says"failed to import: probable incomplete or corrupt clips. ??? they appear as XML files does that mean anything to anyone? i feel i am missing some very simple plug in that translates XML ??
i am running fcp 5.0 is it essential that i have 5.0.4 or 5.1? could that be it?
is the P2 genie the thing??

So quick question - I was planning on using my PowerBook to download the P2 cards - but only have FCP installed on my PowerMac. Can I import the footage onto the PowerBook without having FCP installed on it?

Depends on what you mean by "Importing"...if all you want to do is copy files from the card to a disk you don't need an editor.

If you mean transfer them in a manner that you can see them and be usable in FCP, consider HDLog. www.imagineproducts.com

This app has (among many other features) the ability to open and instantly view P2 files. With the Silver and Gold versions you can also convert the P2 files into standard HD QT files, ready for use in FCP.

Try at least an upgrade to 5.04.

so....i have gotten to the botom of my problems. you have to have the P2 driver installed from panasonic, then you have to have fcp 5.0.4 or higher( i was running 5.0) in order to import files from the P2 card. also from other research you have to have an apple power book G4 with the 1.67Ghz processor and therefore the pci slot. but even then you should read the above mentioned workflow for fcp and the HVX200 because not all recording formats are supported by final cut pro! also there is a huge difference between ingesting and importing. but thank you all above for your help. what baffels me is how unclear and unhelpfull the panasonic web site is. but my thanks to jan crittenden of panasonic(?)

While we're on the thread about P2 cards in Powerbook, I was on a shoot yesterday with 8 gig cards in my test camera and then immediately ingesting into PB. Up to this point, the cards mounted virtually immediately. In each instance, it took about 5 minutes for the card to mount. Went back to the 4 gig cards which came with this camera and they would mount within 30 sec. Has anyone seen this one before?
