Problem Uploading To YouTube

First of all, this is in the T2i section not the FCP one because I am guessing any 7D/T2i user who runs Final Cut is probably rendering with ProRes.

Yesterday, I tried uploading a quick 30-second 1080p video test from my new T2i on to YouTube. The only reason being that the file was 700MB and I am not a Vimeo Pro user. Anyway, after the 3 hour upload, when it said it completed uploading, I went to my videos, and it said "Failed (Unable To Convert Video File)".

After doing some googling, it turns out other people using ProRes are getting a similar problem. I tried exporting in H.264 but it looked like crap. This is my first HD camera, so I am not very knowledgeable about good codecs to use, so please feel free to tell me some decent exporting settings for the web, preferably the smallest file size with pretty good quality.

Thanks in advance.
Andy

H.264 isn't horrible, but there is always the potential to make it look horrible with the wrong settings/workflow. There are many examples on Youtube and Vimeo of people using it with minimal "crappiness". What are you using to encode H.264, what settings are you using?

Exporting through quicktime, with H.264, best quality, full resolution. I leave the bit rate settings alone and I let the frame rate be current.

I always render mine (for youtube/vimeo) with minimum bit rate setting at 6 and max at 10
Also, the keyframe distance ... through my many tests, it's best to have keyframe distance at 1 frame... I used to have it at 24 but the motion, especially in panning, wasn't really smooth, but if I have it 1 frame, it's perfect in term of motion. You might wanna give that a try and see how that works out for you.
