Problem Importing MXF Files from Hard Drive to Final Cut

I recently DP'd a project that I intended to edit myself on my Avid Xpress workstation; however, we have now made the decision to edit it on the director's Final Cut 7 system. I have only worked with Avid in the past, and he has not worked with MXF footage in Final Cut before.

We have all of the MXF files on a hard drive. I offloaded these files from the P2 cards onto the hard drive.

I downloaded the demo version of CALIBRATED MXF IMPORT, trying to get it to work. We are only able to view 30-second clips of the MXF files, which I'm assuming is a problem with it being a demo version and not the full version (please someone confirm this for me, my director is worried that the clips have been truncated to 30 seconds for some reason).

An additional issue is syncing up the video and audio MXF files, something that Avid did automatically for me in the past.

Can someone please point me in the right direction here? I'm not sure if there is a previous post dealing with the same issue, but I looked. We just want to work with the files and have them synced up. As a Final Cut newbie, where do I start?

Thanks a million in advance.

Hopefully, you copied the P2 cards completely intact, i.e the CONTENTS folder (and its contents) unchanged along with the LASTCLIP.TXT file to a new folder on the HDD. Each P2 card should have been copied to its own folder.

If so, you will have no problem with FCP. Just look for Log & Transfer.

That's the issue -- I had planned on editing in Avid, as I normally do, but the director decided after the fact that he wanted to edit it himself on his brand new Final Cut system. So I do not have the contents or the Lastclip.txt simply because I copied the MXF files for edit in Avid, which is how I normally do things.

Ugh.

So just wondering if anyone can send me in the right direction here:

Long story short, I have MXF files from an HVX, I don't have the CONTENTS or Lastclip.txt files, and we need to edit them in Final Cut (I had originally planned on editing in Avid). Is there a way to get around this problem?

Forget "log & transfer". Instead you can install P2CMS and that'll let you drag the MXF files directly to the timeline (but you'll manually have to drag in and sync up the audio).

Or, if you want it to be automated, spring for Raylight, Calibrated MXF Importer, or MXF4QT.
