is there that big of a difference?

im trying to figure out what type of format is best for post in final cut.
i have been using pro res 422 hq, but if there isnt a big advantage the non hq version has advantages, namely its smaller and can be batch converted on streamclip while with hq im doing each one individually with quicktime. thoughts?

thanks. great link. as long as there is no quality difference (and i cant seem to see on) im going with with the non hq version.

Ummm, is all ProRes 10 bit or only some? If it's not all 10-bit that might make a substantial difference if doing grading or effects.

I've tested all the ProRes variants with 7D footage, viewing them side by side on both the FCP timeline and on a 42" HDTV. All "HQ" gets you is much bigger files. I now use "LT" for all my 7D footage.

I've switched to the standard Prores too. Life is better.

I found that mpeg streamclip caused a slight gamma/ color shift to the footage.

You know you can do a batch convert in Compressor, right? Just drag all your files into it, and drop the Prores conversion for progressive material on all the highlighted clips. Submit.

anyway to do this on PC? My computer is having a hard time with the 7D footage. Converting it to something more manageable would be a definite help.

Sure piece of cake. Mpeg Streamclip can batch transcode to your desired flavor of quicktime no problems. I just finished doing this with some 5D footage.
